you can use a regular guitar hero controller for rock band

There is a notice on the Forums that an upcoming Patch will remove this feature in the not-too-distant future, but I don't have a link to it.
NO, it will not work, trust me I would know because I have one and went through the same problem. There is a patch coming out though, there isn't a certain release date but it is ready to go so I would think it is coming out soon.
