How do you turn off the wii 2nd controller if you're not using it?

say i was playing two player with someone on the wii and i wanted to just go and on one player again. how do you turn the 2nd controller off? if you press the power button, it turns off the console. the only way i have turned the controller off was by taking out one of the batteries. help anyone?How do you turn off the wii 2nd controller if you're not using it?
while your in a game, click home then go to Wii Remote Options. After that hit Reconnect that will turn both controllers off. Then follow what it says.

hold the power button
The controllers, when not in use, automatically shut down after a few minutes. So if you want to turn it off, just leave it alone and it will turn off on its own. You'll know it is off when the blue light is gone.
