How does a xbox 360 wireless controller work?

im doing this for a science project and i need answers for me and my projectHow does a xbox 360 wireless controller work?
Wow didn't think I would ever have to correct Milk84 but the controller does not use infrared. The controller uses a Xbox proprietary wireless connection to connect to the Xbox. It is more along the lines of a RF(radio freq). That is why the controller lists on the Xbox.com site ';2.4GHz wireless technology with 30-foot range';.

hmmm....amusing! I got a thumbs down for 100% correct information! Well that is ok I bet it is just a person pissed that they are wrong. How does a xbox 360 wireless controller work?
Okay dudes it's not infrared. Those are ';line of sight'; communications like shining an invisible flashlight at the remote sensor. This stuff can go through walls and that makes it really cool because you can play with the controller held in any position or under a blanket or whatever.

Sounds like an interesting science project if you can learn enough about it. Like how the data is actually transmitted, there's oodles of buttons and the analog sticks etc.
It uses infrared like a TV remote. The receiver is that little red thing on the left of the console. You may want to check out the Wiki pages or use an encyclopedia since most places won't accept Wiki as a valid source.
